I was driving by Frank Campbell’s house on
July 27, 2006 and I saw him outside.  I had been friends with his son, Lee, when we were young. He was the best athlete in the neighborhood at Staib Park when we were growing up. We had graduated in 1973 in the same class.  Although I had been by their house a few times growing up, I never had a conversation with Mr. Campbell in my life, until this day which was only a short time before he passed away at age 90.

Frank A. Campbell was a pleasant man and when I asked him about his service, this is what he shared: 

Being a life long resident of Hackensack and also his family going many years back in county history, I asked him if he had known of Admiral Hewitt and Hoagland Lapham.  Frank told me his family knew Admiral Hewitt,
Dorothy and Hoagland Lapham. 

Frank said he served 37 months during
World War II starting in the African Campaign in Algeres as an Anti Aircraft Gunner in the United States Army.  An interesting note according to his obituary is that after high school in 1934, he went to the Naval Academy. 
Frank A. Campbell served in the Army during World War II from 1942 until the end of the war in 1945 and rose to the rank of Captain.
